Do you miss the fright of Bauhaus? The slow menace?
Mesmerism, released by UVB-76 Music in July (of 2026), is the 2nd album from Lucid Dreams that also served as my introduction to their music. I hear vestiges of more recent favorites like Raime, but Raime set into a vast jazz-tinged landscape with other ghostly figures flying about. Filmic, even, in scale and scope with the opening notes of the title track finding me bracing for the impact of Peter Murphy jumping out of the shadows while bellowing about Bela Lugosi behind a chain link fence.
London-born Jason Luxton is Lucid Dreams, he also records under the moniker Overlook, and he certainly has a nice knack for mixing in the unexpected including Chet Baker-ish trumpet that takes eons to trail off into silence while picking up the pace all the way into a smoky club vibe with deep bass keeping things humming.
A tantalizing intoxicating mix.
