HiFi is filled with as many approaches to musical goodness as there are people making products but some are further off the beaten path than others. No one knows this better than Robin Wyatt of Robyatt Audio.
I like to think of Robin’s quest for the best as grail-like in intensity and vigor, having known him for nearly two decades and hundreds of pieces of gear ago.
Acting as a dealer, distributor, and designer is a form of curation, plucking gems from a vast sea of options, refining, fine tuning, and ultimately making music reproduction that satisfies the quest.
Pictured in the opening image is the Miyajima Labs Prominent field coil-driven open baffle speaker ($25,500/pair) making their first appearance in the USA. The Prominent feature a refurbished vintage Jensen A-12 field coil driver driven by a tube power supply built into the base of the speaker and a vintage Electro-Voice compression driver tweeter with a resin horn. The cabinets are made of Japanese red pine.
What did all of this add up to? A system that delivered immediacy, intensity, whip-like dynamics, and a richly rewarding experience.
